Beginning with contemporary efforts to ban it, The Abortion Pill shows how the fight to keep the pill off the U.S. market used the same arguments and tactics as today. Called "the moral property of women," by supporters, and "the death pill " by opponents, lawsuits about safety, congressional hearings, accusations of a distorted FDA process, and warnings of the dangers of a "chemical abortion" were pitted against scientific review that focused on safety and efficacy.
