Winding Paths tells the story of Otto Brun, a Swiss priest who came the Peru in the 1970s. After experiencing the May 68 movement in France, he met Gustavo Gutiérrez -one of the leaders of Liberation Theology, a progressive current within the Catholic Church. Forbidden love caused him to leave the priesthood. With the support of his wife and his 3 daughters, he became professor of history and geography. Yet dramatic circumstances led to his return to the Church. This film tracks how Otto overcame obstacles with the strength of faith and his love for the disenfranchised. He maintained tense relations with the Church hierarchy, specifically with the current of Opus Dei.
